Truth and Justice

This is something I have been thinking about for about a week; I’ve been praying about it and being careful not to meditate on the anger and frustration I feel, as listen and observe this entire case against Judge Kavanaugh.

There is this gross atmosphere present, and, honestly, it makes my skin crawl. The sheer amount of pride, accusation, hatred, and just vitriol is baffling. It is present in people who are supposed to be our leaders, in newscasters, in entertainers with influence and audience, and in anybody with a keyboard and a chip on their shoulder.

I am exasperated by the circular arguments, the stubbornness of the accusers, and the sheer disregard of the real facts. But, that isn’t what bothers me the most. I don’t want to start any fights, or offend anyone, but the truth is, every single person who has been violently attacking Kavanaugh, his reputation, and his family has corrupted truth and justice.

They don’t care about anything but their anger and their desperation to keep power and influence. I know for a fact God doesn’t tolerate this kind of sinful behavior.

This whole week, my devotions have started in Isaiah. For every entry this week, there are verses which dictate what God says about bullies, liars, hypocrites, and corrupt leaders. It’s not pretty; but the wonderful thing comes from what will happen to the people who are being oppressed, the innocent that are being accused.

God promises vindication, joy, and redemption. He promises to revoke authority from evil, and to return what was taken to those who are good and godly. The defense and redemption of the righteous (especially those who have turned back to God) is a major theme in many of the declarations from the prophet.

I’m not trying to say that Brett Kavanaugh is unassailable and righteous, or somehow perfect. I strongly believe he is a good dad, a good leader, and that he is as innocent as he has said he is.

I’m also not insisting that Dr. Ford is somehow a truly evil person. I’m not saying that about any of the accusers (no matter how fabricated I think this situation is), and I am never against women who have really faced such darkness fighting for true justice.

What I am saying is that the people who are perverting the truth, obstructing justice, and parading all their ugliness around with alarming pride? They’re in serious trouble.

The Judge sees right through them, and they’d best be careful, because He doesn’t take kindly to darkness — and He never abandons the innocent.
