The Same Rule
“You shall have the same rule for the sojourner and for the native, for I am the LORD your God.”
This is from the word of God, as recorded in the book of Leviticus, 24th chapter, 22nd verse. I am being as absurdly specific as possible. This is intentional language, plainly clear, without guile. While Israel was a theocracy, this expectation of the rule of law has not changed. Equality under the law — everyone has to follow the same rule. There is no favoritism shown to natives or cruelty to wanderers, and the opposite is just as true. Leviticus is the real Equality Act. It has been relatively quiet after the bill was passed through the House, but I have been sitting on this for a while, and reading that passage from Leviticus confirmed what I was feeling.
The so-called Equality Act stands in brazen, horrific boldness against what God Himself expects of any nation that operates under the rule of law. Israel may have been an ancient theocracy at the time, but the expectation remains for any nation that claims to govern itself based on fair treatment and freedom for all. When a bill is introduced that intends to raise one group’s rights far above another, it will meet resistance. This kind of clawing for “rights” only leads to resentment and further division.
But let’s be more specific, shall we? What’s the big deal, it’s called the Equality Act, doesn’t the Constitution assert what God already created for us: unalienable rights endowed by our Creator? It does. And though I refuse to affirm the kind of lifestyles that I believe abuse and misuse that freedom, I am in wholehearted agreement with protecting the rights of all people, even those with whom I disagree.
But this isn’t about equality in the slightest. It stomps on a landmark religious freedom act, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. What does that act do? Here’s the language from the resolution, H.R.1308: “Prohibits any agency, department, or official of the United States or any State (the government) from substantially burdening a person’s exercise of religion…” This bill says “the religious rights and conscience of Americans of all religions are precious and the state has no right to burden the exercise of these freedoms.”
The “Equality Act” stomps a rainbow-colored boot over this act, passed with bipartisan support by none other than Chuck Schumer. It says “this group of people has the right to make any demand of any Christian, Muslim, Mormon and Jew, or any other religious group, because they deserve less than equal treatment under the law.” Oh, wait, it targets people who are not just religious groups but the ethnic groups that exist within them? Strange for something touting itself as spreading “equality.” Your conscience, protected by the First Amendment, is not worth protecting.
The “Equality Act” also has the audacity to claim that the refusal to perform an abortion is now qualified under “pregnancy discrimination.” What in the name of God’s Earth does that mean? If it is discrimination to refuse to butcher a human life, which has its DNA determined the moment of conception, that is biologically distinct from the mother and the father, consisting of its own tissue and cellular structure, then I’m a great big bigot. Doctors and nurses would be forced to violate their convictions or fight a costly court battle.
The “Equality Act” also has the potential to put private, Christian adoption facilities, responsible for a huge amount of adoptions in the country in danger of foreclosure for refusing to submit to the forces of an immoral culture that values sexual euphoria over the precious gift of life.
Not only that, it changes the definitions of words in underhanded ways. I will post the articles I am getting my information from below. From the Daily Wire, the wording of the bill, in ensuring “non-discrimination” and avoiding “unfair treatment”, includes stretching the definition of “stadium” in the Civil Rights Act to mean “any place of or establishment that provides exhibition, entertainment, recreation, exercise, amusement, public gathering, or public display…” That means churches, temples, synagogues, mosques — it means literally anywhere anyone is gathered, you must bow to the governments definitions of sex and gender and the science-denying fluidity of it all.
It also changes the definition of “public accommodations” to include (you ready for this? it’s a list…)
“any establishment that provides a good, service, or program, including a store, shopping center, online retailer or service provider, salon, bank, gas station, food bank, service or care center, shelter, travel agency, or funeral parlor, or establishment that provides health care, accounting, or legal services […] train service, bus service, car service, taxi service, airline service, station, depot, or other place of or establishment that provides transportation service.”
One wrong move, one angry and vengeful person, one hint of anything that resists the elevation of one group above another — you could be toast. The authors of this act stretch definitions to mean what original legislation never intended. It keeps the definitions of other words vague and unhelpful, allowing whoever uses the act to push lawsuits and exaggerate problems to hurt businesses of any size.
I could mention the fact that it allows men to participate in women’s sports — specifically high school sports. It allows men who are apparently so inept at being men that they need to abuse their biological advantages to leave women in the dust, unable to compete with other women and unable to show off their skill and athletic grace among their peers.
I won’t mention half of the truly obscene and absolutely demonic things in this bill, which blasphemes against and abuses the image of God. It is abhorrent. To be blunt, if you are a Christian and did not vote, or used your vote to put these legislators in office, be aware that this is on you. Don’t act surprised at the sudden jolt of bold immorality that has shown its ugly face.
The end is not near; I wanted to share just a little of the over-the-top details of this bill. If you don’t believe me or scoff at a right-leaning media outlet, I will post a much more detailed article that goes into the myths and lies surrounding this bill. We can fight it in the Senate and in the courts and even beyond — America is built upon challenge and resistance and the ebb and flow of political forces. But, what if this bill does pass? It won’t end the world, but it sets a precedent. What if, in 100 years, religious freedom has been so suffocated by government control that one can’t even worship in freedom and safety?
This act elevates the LGBTQ+ community above everyone else, and laughs at the rights of people of faith, the beautiful dreams of female athletes, and the future of the unborn. This does not reflect “One Rule.” The rule of Law is a part of the essence of the Lord God, Yahweh Elohim, the Image we bear. When image bearers refute it and choose instead to have different rules for one and the expense of another, we commit idolatry.
If this angers you as much as me, do not be afraid. Trust in the Lord and His promise for revival, the fire that will spring up and burn across this nation. I believe the Lord is a redeemer, a great and merciful God with grand plans for this nation and for His world.
But He is God. He is the God of Israel, and He’s the God of America. Whether you like it or not. Look past the lies and the fog and see the roots of division, vengeance, and evil within this “act”. Resist with honor and integrity.
But remember Who owns this world. Be careful what you sow.
