Real Change

I didn’t really focus in hard on the shooting in Florida, mostly because of how angry and sad it makes me to hear about acts of sin and cowardice. I know there will be people who will ask why God “let” this happen and didn’t do anything to stop it from happening. And some may even push forward with refusing to let teachers and coaches lead quiet and totally voluntary prayer groups or Bible studies. All because they are putting responsibility for this evil on the Person who wants to make them whole, instead of broken people and the evil they are partnering with.

I was reading about the Walk-Out rallies and events that happened yesterday, and I understand that people feel like these kids are being bold by speaking out. And I do think that they are, because they want to see positive change happen. I wonder if this indicates that these students feel like they have no other choice but to handle things themselves. That they have to take responsibility for things that should never be theirs to bear. The only things they should be focusing on is what time they should be going to school, due dates, and what silly “arguments” they’ll have with friends on Twitter; not marching out to stop bad and broken people who want to make the rest of the world hurt like they do.

I know that if teachers weren’t kept from teaching from the Bible and telling their kids how much Jesus loves them, and were able to pray for them in public, things would get better. But, because a few people get worried their kids will feel “left out” or feel like this kind of genuine and good behavior somehow is against what our country was built on, this isn’t happening enough. And I’m also convinced that if enough leaders and teachers said “Enough is enough” for real, and decide to act like Jesus does, things will be different. I know that if people just do this, regardless of what the public or school officials might say, still practicing honor and respect, things will change.

Just felt like I was really supposed to say something, and I really hope I worded this well and that my point was clear — I feel like Jesus is right there and ready to save the day, if we act.
