Pure Words

A word of wisdom from the Proverbs in today’s One-Year reading felt appropriate to share in this season. I am certain I’m not the only person who has held on to and remembered prophetic words and personal promises from the beginning of the year, regarding many things. Some of these things have happened sooner than expected, but others may appear to be delayed (by our standards of time). But, this is one of those Proverbs that is not only true when it is true, but universally true:

Every word of God is pure;
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. (Proverbs 30:5)

Every word God says, from the written word of the Bible, to the recorded words of Jesus, to the inner voice of the Spirit is pure. They are refined and beautified, made to enhance and improve. There aren’t biases or impurities found in God’s word. Human delivery may be flawed or see only half the picture, but God understands what He means.

When He promises justice in a nation, it will be accomplished in perfect timing. We may get irate and even saddened when things we don’t feel are right or just, but His justice is certain and without bias. His patience and perfect justice are limitless.

When He promises healing in our bodies, it is already bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus. Sometimes we can’t explain hurt and loss, because we live in a broken world. But healing is God’s will and He never changes His mind about it. In this world and in the world to come, healing is certain. It is as certain and as bright as polished silver.

When He promises safety and prosperity for His people, there is no force that can undo that or take it away. Corruption and mistakes are also a reality, but they are not the stronger force. God’s provision is pure and without political machinations.

It may be that you felt a strong certainty of a word of God, whether it is something you feel the Holy Spirit pressed on you, whether it is a promise you have read and believed in Scripture, or something someone has shared with you. Regardless of the world outside or the apparent holdups or setbacks that our human eyes are so easily distracted by, trust in the Lord’s pure purpose. Do not be phased or shaken by the winds of political change; God is God regardless of who is in the Oval Office or what color Congressional districts happen to be.

There may well be many things we do not understand. But it is a universal, unchangeable, cosmic certainty that God’s voice is pure, and that He shields those who trust in Him.

Trust that the Lord’s purposes are not dirtied by human greed or human error. There may be resistance, but the Lord’s word is trustworthy. Our hope is in the pure, unchanging, trustworthy God, who accomplishes His perfect purpose no matter what the year holds. There is a Giver of Truth that overrides any thief of joy who throws headlines and scandals and problems to distract and divide. We don’t deny problems, but we deny them power when we trust in God’s words, which are far more pure than the even the finest silver — and as certain as the sunrise.

“My word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11)
